Azerbaijani ambassador to US delivers speech at the event of American Jewish Committee

Baku - APA. Within the framework of the annual conference of the American Jewish Committee (AJC), Azerbaijani ambassador to US Yashar Aliyev took part at the special event organized on this occasion, the embassy told APA. AJC high-level representatives attended the event.

Welcoming Azerbaijani ambassador, AJC President Richard Sideman and Executive Secretary Davis Harris spoke about century-old traditions of Azerbaijan, especially its good attitude towards Jewish community. They noted the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Israel and its special importance for US and Israel as strategic partner.

Speaking about the history of Azerbaijani Jewish people, ethnic and religious endurance of Azerbaijanis, close ties between Azerbaijanis and Jewish people, Aliyev noted the significance of strong relations between Azerbaijan and Israel which were strengthened day after day. The diplomat also spoke about the current state of Azerbaijan-US relations, Azerbaijanâ€™s support to US efforts for maintaining peace in Afghanistan, countryâ€™s key role in the region and its significance for Europe from the standpoint of energy security. Drawing the event participantsâ€™ attention to the fact of occupation of Azerbaijani territories by Armenia, Aliyev noted that international community bears legal and spiritual responsibility for restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and returning of refugees and IDPs to their homelands.

The ambassador answered the questions of the participants at the end of the event.
