Ganira Pashayeva: “Azerbaijani cemeteries are destroyed in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan”

As the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s 1416 resolution and four resolutions of UN Security Council stated, Armenia occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands and turned one million Azerbaijanis into refugees and internally displaced persons”, member of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Ganira Pashayeva told the PACE’s spring session, APA correspondent reports. The report said women were main victims of the conflicts, they were facing with violence and other difficulties, said the parliamentarian. “I would like to talk about hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijani women, who can not return to their homelands for more than 15 years. There is no similar situation in Europe. Hundreds of thousands of women are addressing and expecting you to defend their rights violated by Armenia. Hundreds of Azerbaijanis are detained in Armenia as captives and hostages for more than 15 years. Think about the torments of mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of those people. Azerbaijani women and girls, taken hostage in Armenia for more than 15 years and facing with violence, are expecting you to defend their violated rights. Those who survived from those tortures and violence are expecting you to help them to return home”.
Ganira Pashayeva noted that theses on withdrawal of Armenia from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan and making an opportunity for Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs to return to their homelands had been reflected in #1416 resolution: “But, unfortunately, PACE hasn’t exerted pressure and influence on Armenia which hasn’t fulfilled that resolution yet. I am MP representing border area between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Armenian armed forces keeping a part of Azerbaijani lands under the occupation continue to violate ceasefire throughout the line of contact between the troops. Recently a teacher was injured while she was going to school. I have invited ministers of many countries to those villages and they became horrified at what they say. Azerbaijani cemeteries are being destroyed in the occupied lands. What do you think - can there be more terrible scene for any woman, for any mother?”

She said that it was significant and important to increase the role of women in the regulation process of conflicts: “At the same time we must enhance our activity in these processes with women MPs of the PACE and propose our demands and offers in direction of implementation of adopted resolutions on regulation of the conflicts. We, as women MPs represented at the Council of Europe, have to support women, whose rights have been trampled for years. Without using double standards, we must increase our efforts in direction of protection the rights of those women irrespective of where they live in Europe, or irrespective of their nationality”.
