Sweden takes over EU Presidency

Baku –APA. Sweden took over the Presidency of the European Union from Czech Republic on July 1, APA reports quoting RIA-Novosty. The Presidency of the Union rotates between the member states on a six-month basis. Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt said his country’s priorities during the six-month presidency would be solution of problems caused by the world economic-financial crisis, security issues, particularly combating the organized crime, illegal migration, prevention of climate changes. He said they would continue to support the Eastern Partnership Program, which was launched on the initiative of Sweden and Poland.
European Commission’s Office in Azerbaijan told APA that EU Presidency will be represented in Azerbaijan by Hungarian embassy because Sweden has no embassy in Azerbaijan. Earlier Belgian embassy represented the EU Presidency in Azerbaijan because previous presidency – Czech Republic also had no embassy in Baku.
