US troops leave Iraqi cities, says Iraqi Embassy in Baku

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. Iraqi embassy in Azerbaijan spread information about the withdrawal of US troops from the cities of Iraq. Iraqi government declared June 30 the national holiday of the country â€“ Day of National Sovereignty of the Republic of Iraq, the embassy told APA. According to the agreement signed between the two countries, US troops will be completely withdrawn from Iraq until December 31, 2011 and will hand over the security control in the country to the Iraqi armed forces.

According to the agreement, beginning from June 30, 2009, all residential areas in the country become under the control of the national security forces. Part of the US troops will stay in the cities to instruct the local forces. US troops will conduct military operations upon authorization of the local government only.
