PACE Monitoring Committee discuss two issues on Azerbaijan

Two issues related to Azerbaijan were discussed at the meeting, APA European bureau reports.

Co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan Andres Herkel proposed to address the Council of Europe Venice Commission concerning the NGO law discussed at the Azerbaijani parliament. â€œI consider that it will make the draft law stronger and more effective. On the other hand, I canâ€™t say anything about the form of addressing the Venice Commission. I have to say hat the issues described in the NG draft law should be addressed and it must be done before the adoption of the lawâ€.

HJerkel said the second issues related to the law on freedom of faith in Azerbaijan. â€œWe will continue discussions of these issues in our meeting tomorrow. Regarding the report about general situation in Azerbaijan, we submitted special report on the country last year. There were some technical problems delayed preparation and hearing of the reports on Azerbaijan for long time. My colleague Eugenia Zhivkova will not participate in the next elections in Bulgaria. It means that we have to work with a new co-rapporteur. Therefore we didnâ€™t schedule our next visit to Azerbaijan yetâ€.

Head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told APA European bureau that the Monitoring Committee discussed the issue related to the preparation of a report on Azerbaijan until the autumn or winter session of the Assembly. â€œThere are two options â€“ the report will be prepared due to the PACE autumn or winter session. It will depend on the work of co-rapporteursâ€.
