Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. “No initiative has been taken to hold fivefold meeting on Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov said while commenting on the reports on the joint meeting of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia and co-chairing countries of OSCE Minsk Group, APA reports.
“Presidents and Azerbaijan and Armenia should first have discussions and come to some conclusion. The negotiations should produce some results, so that new initiatives, formats can be put forward,” he said.
Asked whether Nagorno Karabakh conflict would be discussed during Obama-Medvedev meeting early in July, Azimov said the settlement of the conflict was topical for the US and Russia.
“We are observing attention paid by Russian President to the settlement of the conflict. The U.S. administration has also recently focused attention on the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Obama discussed this problem with Turkish President and Prime Minister during his visit to Turkey. So, the U.S. and Russian Presidents may discuss the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. There is both an opportunity and a basis. In other words, if the US and Russia want to achieve improvement, positive results, there are very good opportunities for this. I think the general principled position of international community, which supports Azerbaijan’s position, paves the way for this. There is a need for an impetus,” he said.
