Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov ends his visit to Japan

Baku. Lachin Sultanova – APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov’s working visit to Japan ended. Press Service of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that Mammadyarov had met with Prime Minister Taro Aso, His Highness Crown Prince Naruhito, Chairman of Azerbaijan-Japan Interparliamentary Friendship Council Akira Amari, Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone and his deputy Yasutoshi Nishimura and members of Azerbaijan-Japan Joint Economic Commission. Elmar Mammadyarov also delivered a speech at Japan Institute of International Relations.

Within the framework of the visit, the Minister gave an interview to NHK TV Channel, “Kyodo News” agency and “Nikkei” newspaper. During the meeting with His Highness Crown Prince Naruhito, the Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs provided information about political, economic and social situation as well as ongoing processes in Azerbaijan and discussed the bilateral relations.
At the meeting held between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Japan, both ministers discussed a wide range of issues, including the bilateral relations and global issues of mutual interest. Elmar Mammadyarov invited his counterpart to Baku. Azerbaijani Minister also had a meeting with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura and exchanged views on bilateral ties.

During the visit, Elmar Mammadyarov conducted a meeting with Chairman of Azerbaijan-Japan Interparliamentary Friendship Council Akira Amari and the members of the council. The sides discussed the cooperation issues between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Japan and the stressed the importance of Azerbaijan-Japan Interparliamentary Friendship Council’s role in further development of cooperation between the two countries.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister met with members of Azerbaijan-Japan Joint Economic Commission as well. High-level representatives of Japanese companies involved in the economic commission attended the meeting. The minister gave detailed information about Azerbaijan’s economy, favorable investment atmosphere in the country and implemented transnational projects.

Elmar Mammadyarov also made a speech at Japan Institute of International Relations functioning under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, the Minister expressed Azerbaijan’s position once again and said the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict had to be based on the international legal norms and principles, within the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of its internationally-recognized borders.
