Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso: â€œWe attach great importance to the cooperation with Azerbaijanâ€

Azerbaijanâ€™s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, who is paying official visit to Japan, first met with Prime Minister of Japan Taro Aso, Foreign Ministryâ€™s press service told APA. They exchanged views on the present state of the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan in bilateral and multilateral format, and on regional and global issues.

Taro Aso said Japan attached great importance to the cooperation with Azerbaijan and expressed his satisfaction with the present level of the political and economic relations. He particularly noted the effective energy cooperation between the two countries and underlined that Japanese companies participated in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan projects, Japanese government was interested in extending the cooperation with Azerbaijan in other spheres.

Elmar Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan and Japan had perfect bilateral relations, the positions of the two countries coincided in most regional and international issues. The Minister handed President Ilham Aliyevâ€™s letter of invitation to Taro Aso. Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation in energy and infrastructure, said the relations would also be efficient in other spheres, Azerbaijan was interested in involving high-quality Japanese technologies in the development of non-oil sector of Azerbaijan.

The sides underlined the importance of ensuring peace and security in the South Caucasus and global projects over the region. Elmar Mammadyarov expressed his gratitude to Japan for supporting the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict basing on the international legal norms and principles, within the framework of Azerbaijanâ€™s territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of its borders recognized on the international level.
