Gordon told journalists at the airport that he had come to the region to deliver the attention of the U.S. administration to the South Caucasus. He said the United States attached great importance to the strategic partnership with Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan is an important country for us. We are interested in the security in the region including the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict. I consider that there is opportunity for it and the US is ready to give support,†he said.
Answering the journalists’ questions Philip Gordon said he would discuss in Baku the development of democracy and human rights, broadcast of international radios in Azerbaijan.
“The issue on radios is of great importance for us and I will touch on this issue,†he said.
