UK ambassador to Azerbaijan visits frontline villages of Tovuz

Tovuz. Jamshid Bakhtiyar â€“ APA. UK ambassador to Azerbaijan Carolyn Browne visited Tovuz Region on the MP Ganira Pashayevaâ€™s initiative, APA local bureau reports. The diplomat visited the Martyrs Alley and the mosque in the region and then met with the local officials and member of the parliament, who informed the ambassador about the history, economic potential, local production and business fields of Tovuz.

They emphasized possibility of the involvement of foreign investors in the agricultural production field and cooperation with the local businessman.

The ambassador visited the villages of Tovuz situated on the borders with Armenia. Local residents informed the ambassador about the arsons and vandalism acts committed by the Armenians against the local cemeteries, as well as firing on the local peaceful residents. The ambassador looked at the houses and school building in Tovuz damaged as a result of ceasefire violation by Armenia and talked with the local residents wounded with sniperâ€™s bullet from Armenia. The diplomat said she was impressed deeply what she saw there.

â€œThe United Kingdom supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and solution to the conflict within the international lawâ€, said Ambassador Browne. She said she witnessed very tragic scenes in the region. â€œUnfortunately many countries have no information about these events. Sometimes the people call is as a â€œfrozen conflictâ€. The United Kingdom calls it as unresolved war, but not â€œFrozen conflictâ€. My country for many times stated that it recognized sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. We know clearly that where the borders of the countries in this region begin and where endâ€.

The ambassador met with the activist women, representatives of the non-governmental organizations and leading schoolchildren and teachers of the region.

Browne visited the local television â€“ Simourg and together with MP Ganira Pashayeva gave live interview.
