More than 35 companies from 17 countries have expressed interest in a project to reconstruct wastewater treatment facilities and build a new plant in Azerbaijan under a public-private partnership framework, Turkan Vusat, Head of the Public-Private Partnership Sector of the Project Management Department at the Ministry of Economy, said during her speech at the Third National Competition Forum held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, the tender process has already begun for the second project being implemented under the public-private partnership framework.
Vusat stated that the high level of investor interest indicates the formation of an open competitive environment for the projects.
She noted that, as a result of competition in the Caspian Sea water desalination project, private partners also submitted more favorable price offers than those envisaged in the preliminary feasibility study.
According to the ministry official, the minimum value of projects implemented under the public-private partnership mechanism is 30 million manats.
She added that the projects identified under the public-private partnership framework cover various economic sectors. Implementation has already begun on four of the projects included in the list, while meetings and bilateral discussions are being held with potential investors regarding the others.
Vusat emphasized that the main objective is to attract more investors to public-private partnership projects and ensure more favorable conditions for the state through competitive selection.
