IMF will provide technical assistance to tax reforms in Azerbaijan

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) will provide technical assistance to Azerbaijan in tax reforms, said Valeria Fichera, head of an IMF mission visiting Baku.
According to her, it is proposed to lower profit tax and VAT rates in order to maintain the competitive environment of Azerbaijan in the region.
She praised the current monetary policy of the National Bank of Azerbaijan to tackle the impact of the financial crisis.
“The strengthening of the manat against the dollar was one of the right steps,†she noted.
Valeria Fichera added that despite a decline in assets growth of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan, the state budget for 2009 will not be subjected to serious risks and its growth will be consistent.
“The Government has taken necessary measures to ensure the growth of the state budget in a financial crisis,†he added.
