Azerbaijan minimizes waiting time for clearance of goods at border checkpoints

Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of the Committee, said that the single window control system will streamline goods passage at checkpoints.
“In designing this system, we studied lessons learned by Georgia, Moldova, USA, Switzerland and other countries. The introduction of this system will allow vehicles to pass through customs checkpoints within 20 minutes, compared to 2-3 hours previously. All taxes and duties will be paid at a single window, and registration of documents will be carried out here,†he added.
He added that the new system will allow the fast efficient operation of the transport corridors, improvement of the business environment in Azerbaijan, reduction of the loss of time and costs.
“This system will be introduced in rail and air transport points too. Further improvement of the system will enable to further reduce the loss of time in the future,†he added.
Shahin Baghirov, Chief of the General Directorate of Customs Controls, said that citizens will no longer need to go to various instances for the registration of documents from 1 January, 2009.
“The new infrastructure is being set up at 5 border checkpoints at present,†he added.
Shahin Baghirov noted that e-clearance of goods will be introduced in the future.
