Baku – APA-Economics. Kyrgyzstan’s president has appointed his son to an influential new post amid a government shakeup in the Central Asian nation, AP reported.
The appointment has deepened suspicions that President Kurmanbek Bakiyev is grooming his 32-year-old son, Maxim, as a successor.
Bakiyev issued a decree Thursday naming his son to lead the Central Agency for Development, Investment and Innovation. He has said the agency develop strategy for economic reforms.
Prominent anti-corruption activist Tolekan Ismailova said the purpose of the appointment was to help set the stage for Maxim Bakiyev to succeed his father as president in elections in three years.
Bakiyev’s opponents say the overhaul of government structures he launched last week is aimed to bolster his own power.
