Russia predicts a 20-25% drop in trade with Azerbaijan

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-ECONOMICS. Russia foresees a decline in trade turnover with Azerbaijan in 2009, said Yuri Shedrin, Russian Trade Officer in Azerbaijan.

â€œAzerbaijanâ€™s statistics show that trade turnover between the two countries during January-September remained almost unchanged at last year’s level. However, Russian statistics shows that the trade turnover for January-September significantly declined as compared to the same period last year amid the global financial crisis. By the end of 2009 the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia will not make it to last year’s $2 billion, will be 20-25% lower,â€ he added.

Nevertheless, Yuri Shedrin expressed hope that trade would increase in the future.
