Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko addresses PACE
# 26 June 2014 14:00 (UTC +04:00)

APA's European bureau reports that the President of Ukraine mainly spoke about Russia's invasion of the Crimea and the Russian-Ukrainian relations: “External forces entered our country and they don’t want peace. However, we will continue our work towards the establishment of peace and stability in the country. We would like to stop this violence and put an end to this war. Unfortunately, not only Ukraine, but also the whole Europe and PACE member states face this issue. We see that Ukraine is being deprived of the desire to join the European family, they are ignoring thoughts of the Ukrainians and are not willing to establish a dialogue on this issue and exchange views. We want to sign an association agreement with the European Union and fulfill it immediately. Ukraine made a revolution and this revolution inspires us. We were forced to suffer losses during this revolution. Ukraine's sovereignty must be ensured and what is happening contradicts the Budapest Memorandum.”

The Ukrainian President said that Russia acts as a real aggressor: “We can witness the deterioration of stability in the region. Unfortunately, we have been witnessing such an aggression in Georgia and in other countries for several years. This must be stopped, it is unknown which country will be the next. The main problem in Europe is the absence of mechanisms on protecting the territorial integrity of democratic countries and the establishment of peace. There is a need to develop new models and mechanisms against any aggression in this regard. The existence and spirit of Europe depend on the resolution of the crises in Ukraine.”
