Police anti-terror teams raided 22 locations in Turkey's western provinces of Ä°zmir and Manisa and the eastern province of Erzurum as part of Wednesday's operation, the Cihan news agency said. The detainees are believed to have fought in ISIL's ranks in Syria in an assault on the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani in last autumn and then traveled back to Turkey.

The suspects are believed to have returned to Turkey three months ago, Cihan said.

Police teams found two pistols, five hunting rifles, ISIL flags and several documents indicating possible links between the suspects and ISIL during searches in Ä°zmir's Buca and Menemen districts.

More police operations are under way against ISIL, Cihan reported.

The news of police operations comes amid reports that the government is preparing for a military incursion into Syria to thwart ISIL's advance and, apparently, to also prevent Syrian Kurdish groups in the area from declaring an independent Kurdish state on Turkey's borders.

Several people were detained in police raids in Ä°stanbul over the weekend as part of an operation against suspected members of al-Qaeda, whose Syrian arm is also fighting in the Syrian conflict.
