Baku – APA. A PKK terrorist arrested by Turkish police in Izmir has disclosed the terrorist organization’s plan to explode an enterprise owned by Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey, according to Turkey’s “Star” newspaper.
The terrorist was captured Sunday along with two other members. He had 3kg explosives on him as he was captured. The other two—Mehmet and Ahmet—managed to escape but were both captured later.
Interrogations made it clear that Mehmet, who is a university student, came to Izmir a week ago after being trained in northern Iraq. He was instructed to gather intelligence on the ruling AKP party and trade centers. He says the PKK has chosen them because they are students and do not attract much attention.
“I was supposed to go to a Petkim enterprise in Izmir, but I couldn’t go there as it was too far. Apart from police [stations] and military [units], we were also instructed to attack on enterprises that play a role in Turkey’s economy. That’s the PKK’s new strategy,” he said.
SOCAR Turkey Enerji owns 58% of Petkim’s shares.
