Baku – APA. Switzerland’s parliament on Wednesday elected Simonetta Sommaruga as the Alpine country’s president for 2015, replacing the head of the foreign affairs department whose term is expiring.
Ms. Sommaruga, the head of the country’s justice department, will take over as head of the country’s cabinet, which serves as the collective executive, on Jan, 1. 2015. She will serve a one-year term.
Ms. Sommaruga, 54, has served in the Swiss cabinet as head of the Federal Department of Justice and Police since 2010. She is a member of left-leaning Social Democratic Party. Before entering national politics in 1999, she studied to become a concert pianist and was an executive of the Swiss Consumer Protection Foundation.
