Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli - APA. Pope Francis has today visited the European institutions in Strasbourg.
The Pope delivered speeches at the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, APA's Europe correspondent reports.
Addressing the European Parliament, the Pope touched upon the global political issues. Stressing that the European construction must not be based on a centralized economy but on sacredness of human personality, the Pope spoke about the ongoing economic crisis, people’s living in hunger and misery, the conflicts in the world and Europe and drew attention to the issues of extremism and radicalism.
In his speech at the Council of Europe, Pope Francis, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability in Europe, said peace has become a test for religious and international terrorism which harbors hatred against people’s life and leads to death of a lot of innocent people. “Today we see a wounded Europe. This is caused by ongoing crisis along with the past numerous tests. And Europe seems not to be able to pay attention to these issues lively as before. Europe today looks tired and pessimistic”, he said.
Though Vatican is not a full member of the Council of Europe, it has an observer status at the Council of Europe since 1970.
