Baku-APA. European Union (EU) leaders decided on Friday to nominate Jean-Claude Juncker as next European Commission president at the summit held Friday in Brussels, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy said on his official twitter: "Decision made. The European Council proposes Jean-Claude Juncker as the next President of the European Commission."
Juncker was the lead candidate of the strongest political group- European People's Party (EPP). According to the latest provisional results, EPP group led the 2014 European Parliament elections, gaining 221 out of a total of 751 seats, followed by the S&D group that garnered 191 seats.
