Hamburg. Shamil Aliyev - APA. The Free Democratic Party opposed the proposal to impose quota on immigrants in the European countries, member of the Free Democratic Party, MP from Hamburg Burkhardt Müller-Sönksen said at "Politics, media and communication" seminar organized by Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom for a group of Azerbaijani journalists, APA's correspondent reports from Germany.
He said the arrival of immigrants in Hamburg enriches the society and is the basis of the city's success: “We have always been tolerant. We sometimes hold discussions on this issue in the city. The German society is against the arrival of immigrants or Syrian refugees in the country.”
Speaking about the Syrian events and Germany’s position on this issue, Müller-Sönksen said that the country shouldn’t only take the situation into consideration, but also think about the fate of the people killed there every day. Commenting on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, the MP said that Germany doesn’t exactly know who used the chemical weapons: “We should know the opinion of the UN specialists. Germany doesn’t want to be the first country to follow the U.S. that is insisting on conducting military operations against Syria. We were defeated in two world wars and don’t want to be seen as an occupier anymore. We are sensitive in such issues. I hope that the United Nations will pass a common decision jointly with Russia and China.”
