Baku-APA. Georgia’s border police evacuated over 100 nationals of Georgia, Armenia, Russia and other countries from the northern part of Kazbeg district on Saturday, the local authorities said, APA reports quoting ITAR-TASS.
Helicopters delivered the people to the resort of Gudauri as powerful snowfalls still hamper clearing the Georgian Military Road, a major route through the Caucasian Mountains from Georgia to Russia, covered by two-meter-high snow in that area. Most of the rescued continued their journey to the capital Tbilisi.
A heavy fog had made it impossible to use helicopters for evacuation until Saturday.
Traffic has been restricted on that section of the road since January 6 along with movements across the Georgian Daryali and the Russian Verkhny Lars border checkpoints due to snowfalls and a fog.
