French Foreign Minister: â€œThe chemical weapons were used not by the opposition, but by the government in Syriaâ€

The Minister said that it is not true: “The Russians have already put forward this version. My counterpart Sergey Lavrov also voiced this unconvincing version in the St. Petersburg.”

“Everything shows that chemical weapons were used by the Syrian regime. Only they have these resources and are interested in the use of this weapon,” said Fabius.

The Minister said that the threat of a military operation against Syria should be used to bring Bashar al-Assad to the table with the opposition in Geneva: “As long as Bashar al-Assad considers himself invincible, he will not agree with the negotiations. Serious pressure should be exerted on him, to bring him to the negotiating table with the national opposition coalition in Geneva. French diplomacy is acting in this direction.”
