APA reports the relevant draft resolution has been included in the agenda of the EP plenary meeting to be held in Strasbourg on September 11-12.
EP Vice-President Jacek Saryusz-Wolski said that the decision to discuss this issue was taken at the meeting of EP Conference of Presidents on September 5: “Armenia’s joining the Customs Union, Georgian Prime Minister’s statement on the possibility to consider joining the Customs Union, issues like trade turnover with Ukraine are Russia’s attempts to bring into question the Eastern Partnership program. Our eastern neighbours are facing Russia’s pressures due to the proposals and negotiations on the association agreement. The European Union is bearing responsibility to protect its eastern partners from Russia’s pressures.”
EP started implementing the Eastern Partnership program in 2009. The program includes Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belarus. The program aims at bringing these countries closer to the EU and enhancing cooperation.
