Georgia. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. In recent years, in our country there were a number of organizations calling us to USSR. However, we are striving for membership of the European Union and NATO, said First Deputy State Minister of Georgia on European and Euro-Atlantic Integration David Dondua told APA's Georgia bureau.
Saying that Georgia and the European Union have an extensive program, Dondua informed that Georgia and the EU will soon sign an association agreement. “The European market will soon be open for us and the Georgian market will be open for the European countries. This sounds good, but what is behind it? For example, consider the Marneuli region which densely populated by Azerbaijani people. What does the realty promise them? We want the people to know our expectations from the European Union and NATO. Many people think that if we join these organizations, all problems will be solved. This is the wrong approach. Not all the problems will be solved, but there will be changes”, he said.
As for Georgia-NATO relations, Dondua said that the Alliance has no any consensus yet regarding the issue of admission of his country to the organization.
“However, this is not the end. We want a political consensus in the Alliance have and declare that Georgia should move closer to NATO. Today we don’t speak about the membership but about the dynamics of integration”, he said.
