Baku – APA. Istanbul city Court of Grave Crimes has passed a judgment on Ergenekon coup plot trial. APA reports that tension was observed at the court building in Silivri district of Istanbul. The building was surrounded by thousands of policemen, the persons, who did not have permission to enter the courtroom, were not allowed to stay outside the building.

 

Under the verdict, 21 persons were acquitted. There are no famous people among them. Former Chief of General Staff, Army General Ilker BaÅŸbuÄŸ, army generals HurÅŸit Tolon, Sener Eruygur, Hasan IÄŸsız, Nusret TaÅŸdelen, General Veli Küçük, colonel Dursun Cicek, lawyer Kamal Kerincsiz, Workers' Party leader DoÄŸu Perinçek and journalist Tuncay Ozkan were sentenced to life in prison.

 

Famous journalist, deputy of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Mustafa Balbay, CHP deputy, former chairmen of Chamber of Commerce Chairman Sinan Aygün, CHP deputy, world-famous scientist Mehmet Haberal, for general secretary of the Turkish National Security council, Army General Tuncer Kilinc, Author Ergün Poyraz, former chairman of the Turkish Supreme Education Council Kamal Guruz and etc. faced long-term prison.

 

Prisoners have the right to appeal to Court of Appeal (Yargitay).

 

Totally 275 persons are accused of Ergenekon coup plot trial. 66 out of them are in a jail for a long time.
