Baku – APA. Along with its own security, Turkey is also fighting for global energy security, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The president made the remarks addressing the opening of the 23rd World Energy Congress in Istanbul Oct. 10.
Turkey has rich renewable energy resources, and the government has made it a priority to increase the share of hydro, wind, solar energy in the country’s total installed power to a remarkable 30 percent, said Erdogan.
He said the oil price is recently decreasing and poses a threat for reduction of investments in the oil field.
“We should discuss these issues. The price of natural gas should decrease in accordance with the oil price,” said the president.
Erdogan noted that having rich hydrocarbon resources doesn’t mean achieving wealth and stability.
“We are witnessing it in Africa and in the Middle East. Most of the people living in these regions face problems of energy supply,” he added.
Erdogan said one of the reasons behind Turkey’s interest in Iraq and Syria are the PKK and ISIL terrorist organizations operating in these countries.
“Yesterday’s terrorist act carried out by the PKK in Semdinli claimed the lives of 18 soldiers and civilians. These are the last desperate attempts of the PKK, which has been backed into a corner by our security forces. Nevertheless, since terror is a global problem, a united global fight against terror is needed. Turkey’s operations in Iraq and Syria are a necessity. Along with its own security, Turkey is also fighting for global energy security,” said Turkey’s president.
