Baku-APA. A helicopter operating with the Canadian Coast Guard research icebreaker Amundsen crashed into the Arctic Ocean Monday, killing all three crew members on board, APA reports quoting local media.
The Canada-built Amundsen, which recently departed from Resolute in Cornwallis Island in Nunavut's high Arctic region, was at sea on a research voyage. The crash occurred in the McClure Strait, about 600 kilometers west of Resolute, at 8 p.m. ET Monday when the helicopter was back from a reconnaissance mission on the state of the ice in the area, reports said, quoting official sources.
The bodies have been recovered from the scene and the Coast Guard is expected to reveal more details about the accident at a press briefing to be held later on Tuesday.
