During a visit to Washington, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed a potential contract to supply Ukraine with 25 Patriot systems, which the country plans to receive over several years, APA reports, cting mezha.net.
According to the head of state, such a request comes from the Ukrainian Air Forces, but it cannot be implemented immediately – annual deliveries are planned, as the manufacturer has a queue for other countries.
“These 25 systems we will receive each year, in varying quantities over the years. The White House can change the queue if there is political will. We understand which European countries can grant us priority in the queue. There is more positivity in this matter – we are working now to obtain the necessary decisions” said Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Substantively, he stressed that in some key NATO member states Patriot systems are in the United States’ possession, and Ukraine could receive these systems if there is political will and support in the United States.
The financial basis for the agreement has already been outlined – the use of frozen Russian assets to finance purchases is expected. It is also noted that there is the possibility of attracting other funding sources, since Ukraine has 28 bilateral security agreements that allow finding funds and making prepayments in accordance with the terms of the contracts.
In addition to this, Zelenskyy noted that work on various funding sources will continue to ensure reliability and stability of supply. He stressed that the weapons request and cooperation with allies remain priorities for strengthening Ukraine’s defense potential.
