A preliminary hearing is being held at the Tbilisi City Court in the case involving former President Mikheil Saakashvili and seven other opposition leaders accused of crimes against the state in Georgia, APA’s local bureau reports.

Saakashvili is attending the hearing.

During the proceedings, evidence is being reviewed, and a decision is expected on whether the case will be referred to trial.

Representatives of the U.S. and German embassies in Georgia are also attending the hearing.

It should be recalled that on November 6 last year, Georgia’s Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case against Mikheil Saakashvili and opposition leaders Giorgi Vashadze, Nika Gvaramia, Nika Melia, Zurab Japaridze, Elene Khoshtaria, Mamuka Khazaradze, and Badri Japaridze. They are accused of calling for the violent change of Georgia’s constitutional order or the overthrow of state power, sabotage against the state, supporting hostile activities of a foreign state, and financing activities directed against the state.
