Georgia's ambassador to Bulgaria resigns in solidarity with protesters

Georgian Ambassador to Bulgaria Otar Berdzenishvili has resigned in solidarity with protesters in Georgia, the diplomat made the announcement on the X platform, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.

He noted that throughout his diplomatic service, his country has actively participated in Euro-Atlantic integration and the creation of strategic partnerships with allied countries, especially the United States.

"With this public statement, I am announcing that I've submitted my resignation as an Ambassador of Georgia to Bulgaria. Throughout my extensive diplomatic service (more than two decades), I've been actively engaged with my fellow colleagues in advancing Georgia's Euro- Atlantic & EU integration process, and building solid & trustful strategic partnerships with our allies, especially with the US. Our tireless efforts shouldn't be undermined or compromised by any means.

Noted that 107 employees of the Georgian Foreign Ministry signed a statement condemning the ruling party's decision.

The ruling Georgian Dream announced that it had suspended EU membership negotiations until the end of 2028 and would not receive any budget grants from the EU.
