The parliamentary delegation from Georgia is ending its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) after a resolution was previously adopted calling on the republic's authorities to hold new parliamentary elections. This was stated in a statement by the head of the Georgian delegation, Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Tea Tsulukiani, APA reports citing Georgian media.

As Tsulukiani notes, opponents of the Georgian authorities wanted the powers of the Georgian delegation not to be recognized at all in PACE, however, the body recognized the powers, but with certain conditions, one of which is the holding of new parliamentary elections.

"Taking into account all of the above, we, members of the delegation of the Georgian Parliament, discussed in Strasbourg and Tbilisi and, by common decision of the Georgian Dream team, despite the fact that our powers have been approved, from today we will cease working in the Parliamentary Assembly," the statement reads.

The text of the statement also notes that Georgia remains a member of the Council of Europe, but will return to work in PACE after the blackmail against the country and its people ceases. "Georgia, of course, as a state remains a member of the Council of Europe. However, members of our parliamentary delegation will resume participation in the Parliamentary Assembly only when the unfair attitude towards the Georgian state and people changes, the blackmail ends, and all official and unofficial decision-makers, as well as the forces behind them, are well aware that such pressure will not force Georgia and the authorities elected by its population to take any anti-Georgian steps," Tsulukiani noted.
