Finnish Defense Minister Mikko Savola told the Associated Press in Munich on Saturday that Finland might move along to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) without Sweden should the Turkish government block the latter's accession, APA reports.

Although he stressed that Helsinki would like to join the alliance together with Stockholm, should Turkiye approve their request to join NATO, while refusing to let the latter in, they don't plan to hold up the process.

The Finnish official noted that both countries have a "very deep cooperation [with one another] and we also trust fully each other." Nonetheless, when it comes to the matter of joining the alliance, the decision is "in Turkiye's hands now."
