"The events in Georgia over the past 12 days unequivocally call for the imposition of sanctions, and work is underway to prepare them," European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, said, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.

He emphasized that the implementation of sanctions depends on the unanimity of 27 countries.

"When it comes to sanctions policy, I have always been very open with you. This is very challenging for the EU because we need the unanimity of 27 member states. However, what has happened in Georgia over the past 12 days clearly calls for sanctions, and I know that work is underway to prepare sanctions that we can agree upon unanimously. This depends on the 27 member states. I hope that it will be very difficult for any EU capital to ignore this level of violence and brutality. Let’s see if sanctions will be introduced on Monday. Work is indeed being done in this direction," Paweł Herczyński said.
