Nicolas Sarkozy: “Even 2-3 percent of energy price rise is unacceptable from the social view”

Brussels. Alexander Kin–APA. European Union leaders decided not to change plans for reducing planet-warming emissions by 2020. Only European countries undertake forcible obligations to protect climate, said French President Nicolas Sarkozy at the press conference held after the EU summit, APA correspondent reports from Brussels. The EU leaders agreed to make concessions to the Eastern members of the European Union, particularly to Poland, which economy depends on coal by 95 percent, said Sarkozy. The French president said if schemes implemented in other EU countries would cover Poland as well, it would lead to 2-3 percent rice of energy prices. “It is unacceptable from the social views”. The European Union passed decision in March, 2007 about reducing of emissions by 20 percent by 2020.
