Editor-in-chief of Turkish Tercuman newspaper arrested

The police surrounded the Ankara bureau of Cumhuriyet newspaper and conducted search operations there. Cumhuriyetâ€™s Ankara correspondent Mustafa Balbayi was arrested. The search operations were conducted at the journalistâ€™s house and his computer and some documents were confiscated. The General Staff was informed in advance about the arrest of retired generals Khurshid Tolon and Shener Eruygur. A door of Tolonâ€™s house was broken during the operation and former commander and police officers disputed over it. The search operations were conducted at the hosuses of both generals, as well as in the central and regional offices of Ataturk Thoughts Center. Istanbul republican prosecutor Aykut Chingiz Ergin headed the Ergenekon investigation said he had no information about the arrests. The prosecutor said it was not instructed by him. â€œThey should inform me about that. I will investigate itâ€. Information about the arrests causes fall in the Istanbul bourse and appreciation of the foreign currencies.
