Turkish Foreign Ministry Condemns Australia on Opening of "Assyrian Genocide" Monument

Baku – APA. Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Selcuk Unal stated that Turkey condemns erection of monument for so called Assyrian genocide for distortion of history and accusing Turkey of committing such crime, APA reports quoting turkishny.com web-page.
Issuing a written statement Unal wrote, "We condemn the opening of Assyrian genocide monument in Sidney on August 7 because of distorting history and accusing Turkey. We are disappointed over particiapation of federal officials on this intentional activity which will certainly not contribute relations between two countries."
The spokesman said that the monument showed the unethical searches of the circles which aims to poison perfect relations between Turkey and Australia through rewriting the history in accordance with political interests. Evaluating the support of federal authors to the project as "grave and unacceptable," Unal indicated that opening of the monument disappointed Turkish citizens living in Australia.
"We hope that federal and local politicians who allowed construction of the monument despite all the opposing iniiatives and who supported such an unfortunate activity with personal political expectations, are aware of the dangers that are caused by such steps which aims to plant the seeds of hatred and enmity and which conflicts with the historical facts," said Unal.
Spokesman of Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "Turkey calls the related parties to adopt an attitude appropriate to friendship of the peoples of Turkey and Australia to prevent such kind of steps towards distorting history unilaterally for political purposes."
