Baku - APA-Economics. Competition Agency of Georgia has acted a little non-objectively, SOCAR-Georgia Director General Mahir Mammadov told APA-Economics.
In response to the question of APA-Economics “The Competition Agency of Georgia penalized your company $6.5 mln in July. The statement of the Agency means that SOCAR Georgia signed cartel agreement with other 4 participants of the fuel market. What do you think about this?”, Mammadov said: “The Competition Agency has been established on the basis of challenges of the company. However, I think the Agency acts a little non-objectively. This was caused by its decisions. There are many points here which are our commercial secrets and I cannot publicize them. However, we saw the Agency acts non-objectively and informed Georgian government and SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev about it. Georgian government accepted our appeal”.
Mammadov noted that SOCAR Georgia has already sued: “Our case will be heard soon. We have involved the most powerful law firms and audit companies of the world in this process. We hope the court will pass a decision in favour of us”.
According to him, the accusation of SOCAR Georgia’s participation in the cartel caused laughs in the company.
Mammadov also noted that such accusations may also be ordered: “I accept it normal. Current government was unaware of a number of economic processes, big contracts after winning elections in 2012. We held many meetings in a short-run. Of course, a big investor like SOCAR cannot be out of the government’s interests. As you know, we are the biggest investor, company and taxpayer of Georgia. We have over 6,000 employees. After familiarization with our activity, their concern disappeared. Regarding your question, I think there is also an order by interesting parties. They sometimes think that the fuel price is exaggerated. But they don’t know how the fuel price is formed”.
