Baku - APA. “There is no economic ground for Europe to refuse Russian gas, preferring Azerbaijani and Iranian gas”, Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli, Secretary General, Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) told Izvestisiya newspaper.
According to him, the base price of gas in Iran is higher than Russia. New pipelines, including TANAP, are constructed slowly: “According to my observations, Iran intends to prefer liquid oil because of it’s more effective for Iran to supply gas from Arabian Sea to Asia. Stretching Iranian gas pipeline through Turkey’s territory is a long-term project and there is no ground for it yet”.
Forecasting period of realization of abovementioned projects, Seyed Mohammad Hossein Adeli said he was sure that Azerbaijan will join EU gas pipeline system not earlier than 2022-2025, but Iran later: “They are able to meet only as few percent of EU demand. Currently, Russia meets 1/3 of EU demand. After launch of TANAP, this index may be reduced to 25-28%. EU also understands it”.
