Existing system for transportation of extra 16 bcm of gas via SGC to be expanded

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. In order to transport extra 16 bcm of gas within the South Caucasus Pipeline Expansion (SCPX) project, the existing SCPX system will be expanded by constructing 489 km-new pipeline in parallel with this system. SCPX project also includes construction of several plants, BP's Regional President for Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia Gordon Birrell told journalists.

According to him, these plants include two 129 mWt – compressor stations, 2 intermediate pigging stations (one in Azerbaijan and another one in Georgia), 48-inch 6 block valve stations (one in Georgia and five in Azerbaijan), Pressure Reducing & Metering Stations located in the international borders, merger to TANAP on Georgia-Turkey border: “The works within the projects, of which BP is operator, have improved about 40%, over 12,500 persons have been recruited and 85% of the are Azerbaijanis.

Mr. Birrell said BP invests capital for the first time in the modernist technologies on welding, inspection and coating in order to carry out submarine construction works inside the country: “Local companies also benefited from these projects. New contracts in the worth of $5.5 bln have been signed with Azerbaijani companies”.
