The reductions will include 600 positions in its North Sea oil and gas business, which currently has a workforce of 3,000, over the next two years.

Globally, BP's upstream business employs over 24,000 people.

"We are doing this to make sure business is competitive and able to operate in increasingly tough market conditions. Clearly one major driver is the falling oil price", the copmany said.

According to APA-Economics, BP-Azerbaijan about 50 workers have been dismissed.

Head of press service of BP-Azerbaijan Tamam Bayatli did not confirm the fact.
