Since the commissioning of the "Absheron" gas-condensate field located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas have been produced (as of April 1, 2025), APA-Economics reports, citing SOCAR’s data.
1.01 million tons of gas condensate were extracted from the field during the reporting period.
Note that in 2009, an agreement was signed between SOCAR and France’s “TotalEnergies” company on “Exploration, Development, and Production Sharing of the Absheron Offshore Block in the Azerbaijani Sector of the Caspian Sea.” On August 4, 2023, another shareholder — Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) — joined the "Absheron" project, and thus, the new shareholder distribution became 35% for both SOCAR and “TotalEnergies,” and 30% for ADNOC.
The development of the field, which has a contract area of 747 km², is being carried out by the project's joint operator, "JOCAP" company.
On January 14, 2011, the drilling process was launched using the Heydar Aliyev semi-submersible drilling rig, and on September 9, 2011, the discovery of the "Absheron" field was officially announced. In 2019, drilling at the ABD-001 production and appraisal well at a depth of 7,411 meters was completed.
In September 2020, a groundbreaking ceremony for offshore operations at the "Absheron" field was held at SOCAR’s Heydar Aliyev Baku Deepwater Jackets Plant. On July 3, 2023, the "Absheron" gas-condensate field began production with a daily output of 4.2 million cubic meters of gas and 1,200 tons of condensate.
