SOCAR has submitted project documents for the expansion of the Kulevi terminal located on the Black Sea coast to the Environmental Control Department of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, APA's Georgian bureau reports, citing the local "Business Media" publication.
The project envisages the construction of four new cylindrical steel tanks with a capacity of 20 thousand cubic meters each, which will allow increasing the terminal's loading and unloading capacity of fuel and oil products to a total of 80 thousand cubic meters.
In addition, a two-way railway overpass will be built to ensure effective unloading of oil products from tank cars.
In accordance with Georgian legislation, SOCAR has submitted an environmental impact assessment report along with the project. The Environmental Control Department will review the document and then issue the appropriate permit to start construction of new facilities at the terminal.
It was noted that the Kulevi terminal has 6 reservoir parks and the expansion is part of the company's development strategy.
Note that the Kulevi oil terminal has been operating since 2008. Plans for its expansion were announced in April of this year.
