Our key priority is to ensure that our customers across the region are supplied with energy in a sustainable and reliable manner, while also contributing to regional energy security, said SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf during his speech at the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
“Compared to last year, the geography of gas supply this year includes not only Europe, Georgia and Türkiye, but also Syria. This means that Azerbaijan is now supplying gas to the Syrian market as well,” Rovshan Najaf noted.
According to him, under the current circumstances, partners are interested in purchasing more gas, but they want it to be supplied in a sustainable manner. In the existing environment, Azerbaijani gas is considered one of the most reliable energy sources in the region.
“Therefore, together with our partners, we must ensure that production plans progress in line with our program so that we can supply more gas to our partners across the region. In this regard, one of the key issues we are discussing is the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor to enable additional gas exports to Europe. However, the situation regarding the implementation of this expansion has remained unchanged over the past five years.
We are ready to supply more gas and expand, but this requires our European partners to conclude long-term gas purchase agreements and participate in financing the expansion project,” the SOCAR president stressed.
According to Rovshan Najaf, Azerbaijan will continue to increase gas production over the coming decades and remain a reliable supplier to partner countries. As for consumption, all forecasts and plans observed so far indicate that demand will continue to grow and may even increase further. There are two main reasons for this: first, disruptions in global supply chains and the search for more reliable energy sources; second, market and geopolitical pressures that cannot be ignored.
