In recent years, the importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan and the Southern Gas Corridor in ensuring Moldova's energy security has been increasing, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova, Carolina Novak, said during her speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
She said that, against the background of the risks arising in supply after 2021, the country is focused on alternative sources and routes for gas and electricity.
"The Trans-Balkan pipeline, the interconnector with Bulgaria, the establishment of energy connections with Romania and other countries are the basis of our diversification efforts," the State Secretary said.
Azerbaijan's assistance to Moldova on this path was particularly appreciated: "At the same time, I would like to express my gratitude to Romania, as well as to the Republic of Azerbaijan, for their great support in the field of logistics and gas supply. Yesterday, the Vice President of the Republic of Korea said, "A friend who helps in difficult times is a true friend." In this context, Azerbaijan has provided significant support to Moldova in the energy sector, and we are very grateful for this cooperation."
The Moldovan official noted that the Southern Gas Corridor and its component, the Middle Corridor, are of strategic importance not only in terms of energy but also in terms of regional stability and prosperity.
"These projects, connecting countries, create new opportunities for peace and cooperation. The tariff agreement signed a few days ago between the energy operators of Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine is also an important step in this regard," added Karolina Novak.
