Kyrgyzstan generates 90% of its electricity from hydropower, Kyrgyzstan's Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev stated during the ministerial-level plenary session held within the framework of the 31st Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, approximately 90% of the electricity produced in Kyrgyzstan comes from hydroelectric power plants.

The minister noted that the country closely cooperates with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan within the framework of the unified energy system of Central Asia. During periods of electricity shortages, Kyrgyzstan receives support from neighboring countries.

T. Ibraev stated that hydroelectric power plants that have been in operation for more than 60 years are currently undergoing modernization. At the same time, efforts are being made to develop solar and wind energy projects.

According to the minister, Kyrgyzstan continues reforms in the energy sector aimed at increasing green energy production and strengthening the resilience of energy supply.
