BP is building a facility to remotely control a $2.9 billion compressor platform in the Caspian Sea, BP’s Vice President Production Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye region, Stuart Shaw, said during his speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
He noted that BP is launching its next major project in the Caspian Sea. The compressor platform in the Shah Deniz field will be a facility without human intervention.
He said that this project, implemented with an investment of $2.9 billion, is one of the main infrastructures planned to be put into operation by 2030. The platform is designed in such a way that there will be no permanent staff and all operations will be controlled remotely: “Thanks to this technological approach, the operating staff will be able to fully control the platform in a safe environment - from control centers located on the shore. Thus, security risks will be reduced, while at the same time costs and human resources will be saved”.
The Vice President emphasized that this project could be a turning point for the future of remotely controlled energy facilities in the Caspian Sea. The company aims to redefine the standards of efficiency and sustainability in energy production in the region by expanding its remote control technologies.
