Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. In the context of the global financial crisis, Belarus’ buying oil from Azerbaijan is economically unfavorable, said the Ambassador of Belarus to Azerbaijan Nikolai Patzkevich.
According to the diplomat, Belarus currently produces 1.7-1.8 million tonnes of oil a year, but a record of 7.5 million tonnes was achieved a few years ago.
“At present Belarus processes all its oil and uses 35% of oil products for the domestic needs of the country. A new oil field was discovered in Belarus in December. It is not yet known how much oil it will produce,” he added.
According to him while despite ongoing negotiations on the purchase of Azerbaijani crude oil between the two countries continues, the question has last its relevance.
“It is economically unfavorable to buy oil amid the financial crisis,” he added.
