Secretary General of the Congress of Local Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe: â€œMayor of Baku should be elected by the electionsâ€

APA European bureau reports, Mildon said he would visit the South Caucasus in near future and would visit Azerbaijan to learn the situation in the country. â€œThere is much work to be done in the field of local democracy in Azerbaijan, but the country is using all opportunities to fulfill obligations arisen from the local self-administration Charter. We are closely watching the development of local and regional democracy in the country. We have good will relations with Azerbaijani governmentâ€. Touching upon the problems of election procedure of Azerbaijani delegation to the Congress of Local Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, Mindol said they received Azerbaijani delegation and if there would be any shortages they would demand to solve it. The secretary General of the Congress Ulrich Boner said they have done enough work for the development of local democracy in the three countries of South Caucasus. He said: â€œIn compare with Azerbaijan other two countries made some progress in the election of city mayors. Tbilisi Mayor was elected already. Armenia will elect Mayor of Yerevan next year. In Azerbaijan Mayor of Baku is appointed by the countryâ€™s leadership so farâ€.
